Waypoint Homes - Deceiving Company
We were looking for a rental property for a long time. We found a home through waypoint homes that would have been in the area we were looking for.
We read all the reviews just like most of the others here, but thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt, plus we were desperate to find a rental. DONT DO IT!! I said "it'll be ok, maybe just for a year" just like you are doing...it wont be! We got approved right away and they sent us the email the next day stating we are approved and listing out all of the hidden fees and move in costs.
I called the leasing agent to ask a question as the 800 number told me to do, and he didn't answer but his VM said I could text also. I sent a text and a call with no reply all day, until the evening when he called me and I called him back literally 30 seconds later. Didn't answer. Sent another text, no answer.
Called again later after I got the email to sign the lease in 24 hours or it would be put back on the market, no answer. We now have 24 hours to make a decision. rent for the house was listed as 1695. the agreement we got was listed with a "smart home" fee because lock on the door is a code lock and not a key lock, which is not optional.
$17.95 a month for that. They wanted over $2587 for deposit and didn't give a breakdown of why. They charge an extra fee to pay your rent with debit card. OVERALL MOVE IN COST, over $5000 for a rent of 1695.
RIDICULOUS. It is not that they were dishonest, because their fees weren't listed anywhere, they get by with scamming by omitting important things like hidden fees and jacked up deposits. We have no bankrupty, no evictions, and no bad credit.
We still have less than 24 hours left to sign the lease and still no one has called me back. DONT DO IT!!
